    Ugh!

    By letmesuffer  May 6, 2000

On 'Agony' what really stands out to me is the killer guitar tone and the brutal, intricate riffs. What doesn't stand out is the drumwork. It's waaaaay in the background, and the snare sound has been reduced to a tiny 'bam' that sounds truly patheti...c. On top of that Tim King's vocals aren't guttural anymore! His vocal style is very gruff here and i personally don't like it. The trademark OPPRESSOR piano intros are gone too. Instead there's an abstract industrial style piece here... it's actually very good, but i still miss Tim King's beautiful piano compositions. I enjoyed this CD on its first spin but each listen after has only left me dissapointed. This review is probably the worst one you'll read for 'Agony'; apparently most people liked it more than i did. If for anything it's definitely worth buying this CD for "I Am Darkness", one of the most brutal OPPRESSOR songs ever written!
