BATMAN: Inspired by Frank Miller's graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns," this gothic, Wagnerian treatment of the Batman mythos explains the origins of Batman and his nemesis, the maniacal Joker (a ripe Jack Nicholson), who has sinister plans for the citizens of Gotham City. Academy Awards: Best Art Direction.

BATMAN RETURNS: As the pitiful, orphaned psychopathic freak the Penguin and the "power" hungry capitalist villain Max Schreck (named after the actor who played Nosferatu) plot to gain domination over Gotham City, the caped crusader battles an equally fatal distraction - Cat Woman. Academy Award Nominations: Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup.

BATMAN FOREVER: Gotham City is once again under siege, this time by the mind-controlling Riddler and the diabolical Harvey Two-Face. The Caped Crusader cleans up with the help of his new side-kick Robin in this effects-laden thrill ride.

BATMAN & ROBIN: The Caped Crusader returns to battle the abominable Mr. Freeze and green-thumbed Poison Ivy. To save his ailing wife, Dr. Victor Fries turns to a life of crime after a hideous accident makes him unable to tolerate even moderate temperatures, while Dr. Pamela Isley falls victim to mutated plant DNA when things go awry in a jungle laboratory funded by Wayne Industries. Of course, though their interests are diametrically opposed (Freeze wants another Ice Age; Ivy wants to make the world safe for plants), the two villains team up to defeat Gotham's dynamic duo of Batman and Robin, who are joined by butler Alfred's motorcycle-obsessed niece as Batgirl. And when Alfred is diagnosed as having the same terminal disease as Freeze's wife, the trio find themselves not only fighting an altruistic battle, but a personal one as well. A frenetic, colorful, and often overwhelming sequel to "Batman," "Batman Returns," and "Batman Forever."

    Great Legacy!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 19, 2001

The Batman Movies are great action fun. The first film is the best. Michael Keaton plays a powerful, powerful, Batman against the despised Joker played by Jack Nicholson. The second film is also very powerful. It has a darker setting than the first ...one, but many have found this format more to thier liking. The film is also more violent than the first one. Tim Burten who directed the first batman and the second one decided to take a little bit of a different turn. While some did not like the different pattern, many did. Batman Forever. The third film has now been taken over by director Joel Shumacher, Batman Val Kilmer, and Chris O'Donnel--Robin. The Film is not nearly as violent as the first and second. It has more of a comic spin to it than the first two, along with the drama that Batman must continue through, this film is more or less an action, dramody. it also gives Batman a new challenge to work with a side-kick. Many found the new format to be an exciting new era. Many felt heart broken at the thought of loosing Tim Burten's portrayal of the dark Knight, but Shumacher did a good job overall. Batman & Robin. The final Chapter of the Batman Films is a cose to the third. Joel Shumacher decided to keep his Format of Comic action. This film continues the story of how Batman meets Batgirl--(Alfred's neice)--The story follows the same format as any other. Batman being the hero--Of course! This has indeed been a great legacy.
