    Great Legacy!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 19, 2001

The Batman Movies are great action fun. The first film is the best. Michael Keaton plays a powerful, powerful, Batman against the despised Joker played by Jack Nicholson. The second film is also very powerful. It has a darker setting than the first ...one, but many have found this format more to thier liking. The film is also more violent than the first one. Tim Burten who directed the first batman and the second one decided to take a little bit of a different turn. While some did not like the different pattern, many did. Batman Forever. The third film has now been taken over by director Joel Shumacher, Batman Val Kilmer, and Chris O'Donnel--Robin. The Film is not nearly as violent as the first and second. It has more of a comic spin to it than the first two, along with the drama that Batman must continue through, this film is more or less an action, dramody. it also gives Batman a new challenge to work with a side-kick. Many found the new format to be an exciting new era. Many felt heart broken at the thought of loosing Tim Burten's portrayal of the dark Knight, but Shumacher did a good job overall. Batman & Robin. The final Chapter of the Batman Films is a cose to the third. Joel Shumacher decided to keep his Format of Comic action. This film continues the story of how Batman meets Batgirl--(Alfred's neice)--The story follows the same format as any other. Batman being the hero--Of course! This has indeed been a great legacy. Get the first two and skip the others!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 22, 2001

Batman one is a triumph, Batman returns is less focused but still a worthy chapter to the Btaman legacy, the other were forgotten as soon as thye were released and for good reason. They may look great on DVD, but the actual substance quality of the ...last two is only deserving of the 60's tv show. Read more Less

    GOOD MOVIES

The first is great cause Jack Nicholson. The second gory but, still a great movie. The third is the best Jim Carrey as the Riddler gave a little comedy which was missing from the first two while Tommy Lee Jones petrays the classic Batman type of vill...ian. Despite George Clonney the fourth is a awful film and a discrace too the other three. Read more Less

I liked the first 3, but Batman and Robin sucked. Batman Forever deserved more credit than the other 2. It was the BEST. Overall, this DVD set is worth your money!!!

No Sense Buying 4 When Only 2 Worth Owning

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 14, 2002 | 0 out of 1 found this Batman Legacy (1989) review helpful

The first two films are definetly worth owning (you can argue which is better, I prefer the first) but the last two films are better off forgotton. I have a soft spot for the Riddler and Jim Carrey did a nice job with the character but that does not ...make Batman Forever a decent movie. Batman and Robin is so bad that fans of the character a still upset. Read more Less

Taste And Economy Make This Unnecessary

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 24, 2001 | 0 out of 1 found this Batman Legacy (1989) review helpful

If anything -with no apologies to the entries below- the first full length chapter in this big screen series is uneven despite its promise. Michael Keaton in the title role puts forth minimal effort and therefore little to remember. Jack Nicholson ...as the Joker elicits immediate approval by most but does so with dialog that would fail by any given comic elsewhere. Yet as his venture with Helen Hunt demonstrates when Nicholson hams the sheep flock to reward him with accolades he never really earns. The intention of the Joker is to strike fear and elicit disgust. Nicholson does neither. It comes to no surprise that most favor the first despite far too many flaws which includes Nicholson himself. "Batman Returns" injects the grim tone that the first only suggests and is faithful to the comic book source which was its inspiration. In this chapter Keaton is more at ease and therefore more convincing as he reprises both Batman and Bruce Wayne. Where is the lack of focus that the "critic" notes below and how is it inferior to its predecessor when "Batman Returns" succeeds in something other than just mere appearance? "Batman Forever" finds Joel Schumacher to cram the screen with far too many reaching for the principal focus and in the process dilutes the sinister characteristics of the previous effort. Much worse was yet to come because by "Batman And Robin" Schumacher riddles the franchise with camp and does so with pride. Does anyone find it just mere coincicidence that prior to the production of "Batman Forever" Keaton refuses to reprise his role because of the quality of the screenplay and because too much litters it? Does anyone find it mere coincidence that Schumacher alienates Val Kilmer during production for the same project Keaton refuses to work on? Does anyone find it amusing that Schumacher declares George Clooney superior to others once in the same role yet gave him little to work with in "Batman And Robin"? Does anyone find it more amusing that Clooney himself was critical of "Batman And Robin" and that those that sit in the ivory towers at Warner Brothers Studios now wonder how to restore this series? Unless you allow yourself the marginal then surpass this "legacy" and just reserve exclusive attention for "Batman Returns". Read more Less
