    Mediocre Four

Pros: Good casting, Good effects, Jessica Alba

Cons: Bad choice for Dr. Doom, Bad re-do of origin, Not much plot

Sadly the makers of this film chose to go way, way off into new territory with the origin of the Fantastic Four. I knew toexpect a certain amount of change and I was okay with that, but I don't know where they came up with this stuff. I can forg...ive the origin re-do, but I really dislike the way that Dr. Doom was handled. He was bland and completely uninteresting, and I didn't care for the actor. I also don't know why they chose to go the route they did with his origin too, simply not good. The other actors all were well chosen for their parts and did an admirable job working with a script that just never quite delivered. Fantastic, no. Acceptable, maybe. Read more Less

Pros: The special features add a whole extra level of enjoyment to the movie.

Cons: Fans who bought one of the original DVD formats, now have had to go out and spend more money on another version, just so the studio can promote the movie's new sequel.

Yes, this movie is made from a comic book. Yes, it is the second time in the course of a year that the movie has been issued since it originally hit theaters. Yes, those who bought one of the original formats have been ripped off. That is because the... extended edition of this wonderful movie was re-issued basically to help promote the movie's new sequel, 'Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer." Set aside the consumers being ripped off, and one will see an enjoyable and actually believeable movie that is made even better by the additional features. The features are a wonderful addition to the movie, and help to make the movie more enjoyable. But the reality is that it is that combination of the two that makes this edition so...well...fantastic. The movie clocks in at just above two hours, which compared to more recent movies (E.g. Pirates 3, Spideman 3, etc.) is quite bearable. And thanks to the writing of Mark Frost and Michael France, and the directing of Tim Story, one can't help but watch. The writing and directing make for a two-hour ride that keeps the full attention of audiences, much unlike the aforementioned movies, among others. The special features make the money spent on this edition even more worth it. So many times, studios will release movies to DVD on a two-disc set, with "bonus features" that really are not that much of a bonus. Other times, such as with 'Pirates of The Caribbean 2', and this movie, the bonus features are truly bonuses. The "Heroes are Born" featurette doesn't just explain how the characters were made. Rather, it goes in to full depth with each character, including Dr. Doom. This featurette is one that students, fans and those in the movie industry will fully enjoy, in that it explains the CG, makeup, etc. that went in to making each of the main characters. The "World's Greatest Comic Book" and "Jack Kirby: Storyteller" featurettes are featurettes that true hardcore comic book afficiandos will thoroughly enjoy. These two featurettes are not just bonus features. They are history lessons. The prior--which clocks in at just under an hour--tells the history and evolution of the comic book from its origins. The latter, on the other hand, tells the history of Jack Kirby. Kirby is hands down, one of the greatest artists of all time. So this featurette is one that students and fans of art will definitely enjoy. So now, parents who don't want their kids to go in to art for a living can rest easier seeing just how lucrative a career in art can be. Whether it is these features, or others, or the movie itself, Fantastic Four is truly a movie that, while it is obviously different from the original comic book, is fantastic in and of itself. Fantastic 4

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 4, 2007

    Pros: I love Jessica Alba

    Cons: Jessica is the best!

When I first saw the trailer to Fantastic Four, I feared that this would be a superhero movie in the line of Daredevil. Fortunately this movie turned out to be entertaining movie. The action was very short and scarse, but surprising was not boring. ...It had to do to the great chemistry of the cast. It is easy to see that the actors had fun with this movie. Chris Evans and Michael Chiklas brings enough brotherly humor that you can see the Fantastic Four as a family. Unfortunately, Julian McMahon is the only dull person in the movie, which is not good since he is the villain. This is what killed the battle scenes, there was no real threat with him. He is upset because Mr. Fantastic upstages him. Dr. Doom does not want to destroy the world, but the Fantastic Four. (who care's) I'll recommend seeing this movie if you are looking for sheer escapism. It is not action-packed, but it is fun nevertheless. Don't be expecting a good story like "Batman Begins" or "Spiderman", but also don't expect a dull story like "Daredevil" or "Elektra" either. It is an average superhero movie. ... Read more Less

    Pros: Great effects

    Cons: Features are So-So

This is a well-watched DVD. It is one of my boyfriend's favorites! I don't recall the old Fantastic 4 series, but I do know I enjoy this version better than the old animated series. It's great how the action builds and the plot thickens...... and each character has their own little quirks. Bottom line: something you can watch with your date (if they're so inclined)!
