By marg Feb 21, 2007
Pros: Fantastic, beautifull arrangements, perfect singing
Cons: Just 1 or 2 songs, altho sung great, I could live without
Glen Campbell is simply the finest and most beautiful singer on this planet or any other. I have held this powerful opinion since at least 1970 and if there is one subject I can say "never" about, (as in, never changing my mind about) it is... that I will carry this "magnificent obsession" of truth to my grave. I love this guy and wish I could talk to him and be around him because I believe (feel) that he is a good person, not to mention, fun, interesting, honest and lovely to know. About "Still Within the Sound of My Voice," the cassette I bought in 1988. (Can I get this in CD)The 2 duets are beautiful, especially "Leavin's Not the Only way to Go," with Willie Nelson; an absolutely gorgeous piece of music. Glen lets the other person shine and never overpowers or over-"emotions" anyone to hog and ruin the recording. The arrangement for "I Remember You," cannot be improved upon - upbeat and simply magical what Glen does for a tune. He is perfect beyond belief in his singing; a voice that can only be described as a gift extraordinaire - gentle, feeling, tender, perfect diction, every word distinct from beginning to end; the wonder of it is that he does all of this in every word with outstanding, remarkable consistency from beginning to end of every song he sings. Incredible! and extremely rare. "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle" is another beautiful piece that Glen sings as though he wrote every loving inch of it, and because it cries out for harmony, he knows when to add another track of his god-given voice in all the right places to any tune. "For Sure, For Certain.... " what can I say? Glen masters these sad, wistful, songs to perfection - of course they are beautiful creations to begin with and then to have Glen sing them.. well - how lucky can we get? "I Have You," - a fine song and again, beautiful, beautifully done. The mark of a great singer is to not only make even the dullest, and "poor" music sound 100 times better than the stuff merits, but to hold your attention throughout. Multifply those remarks one million times, and you have GLEN CAMPBELL. Nope, nobody like him. Not before, not now, and not ever. Amen. I would love for Glen to receive this piece just to let him know how much I admire and love his singing, not to mention his wonderful guitar accompaniment. Sincerely, with all my heart, Maggielou.
