Bauhaus guitarist Daniel Ash created Tones on Tail as a side project in 1981 with bassist Glenn Campling, who was also a roadie for Bauhaus. When Bauhaus broke up in 1983, Ash chose to concentrate on his new group, bringing in Bauhaus drummer Kevin Haskins as well. Their styles ranged from light rock to funk to atmospheric synth music.
