Touching story off a poor man in post war Rome who has his bike stolen on the very first day of his new job as a movies poster hanger. He searchs all of Rome with his little son, he know if he can't find his bike he will lose his job and his family will starve. If you don't cry during this movie it means you are a robot. Nice Existential Tale

Ikiru is about a bureaucrat who finds out he has stomach cancer and no more than 6 months of life, the disease gives him an opportunity to look back at his life and realize that hasn't acomplished anything. So, filled with despair off he goes drinking to make up for the lost time, or maybe to punish himself for having wasted those years with meaningless acts. What drives him to despair is not that he is gonna die, but the fact that he hasn't done anything with he's life weather at work or with his family (for that Kurosawa uses a flashback sequence which is very close to briliant). He them sets off his mind to do one meaningfull act before he dies. The dvd has a commentary track which is very nice.I recommend it to everyone ...

My Favorite Kurosawa Movie

Kurosawa at it's finnest. Pure cinema with great shots and music. My favorite scene is on the very beggining when we see a messenger running down stairs filled with what seems to be dead and wounded soldiers, that acompanied by a great background score. Movies can get any better than this. ...

One of the influences of Tarantino on Kill Bill
Pros: blood, lots of
Cons: kind of predictable
It's proabably from this movie that Tarantino got the idea of the headless bodies splashing buckets of blood and every other sort of amputation you see in the first part of Kill Bill.
The movie is nice it shows some tatooed japanese chick small tits, which is allways cool. The samurais portrayed on this movie are not as historicaly acurate as those of Kurosawa movies, but that's fine too. Overall the movies entertains. ...
